You'll need

  • paper or cardboard egg box (not plastic or foam)
  • small treats

Set up

Use a clean paper egg box. Wipe out any egg residue.

How to play

  1. Put one treat in each egg cup.

  2. Leave it open the first time and let your dog eat from it.

  3. Next time close the lid and put it down. Let your dog nose and tear it open.

  4. Harder: put a small treat-filled box inside a bigger box.

  5. Clear up the pieces once the treats are gone.

House rules

  • Paper boxes only.
  • Stay nearby the first few times.
Make it easier
Leave the lid open, or tear holes in the lid.
Make it harder
Close and tape with paper tape, or wrap in newspaper.

Signs it's having fun

Proud tearing, tail up, sniffing each cup.

Stop if you see

Your dog swallows chunks of cardboard or guards the box.

Safety

  • No plastic or foam egg boxes.
  • Wash or bin boxes from raw eggs to avoid salmonella.
  • If your dog eats cardboard rather than shreds it, use a rubber puzzle toy instead.
