How to play
Wait until your dog isn't busy with something exciting.
Say your dog's name and "Let's go" in a happy voice, then turn and jog away.
Keep up the happy talk as your dog follows.
When your dog catches up, stop and give a treat or a quick toy game.
Repeat 3 to 5 times, then let your dog go back to sniffing.
House rules
- You run away; never chase your dog.
- Coming to you always pays.
- Never call your dog to end something fun and then do something they dislike.
- Make it easier
- Start very close, and run just a few steps.
- Make it harder
- Call from farther away, or when your dog is mildly distracted.
Signs it's having fun
Your dog spins toward you and bounds over, tail high.
Stop if you see
Your dog gets nippy at your heels; slow down and use a toy to redirect.
Safety
- Play only in fenced areas until recall is reliable.
- Avoid slippery floors.
